The Institutes on Academic Diversity are committed to providing educators with high quality, research-based support in differentiating instruction. We offer 3 annual professional development events for teachers, administrators, and graduate students.

Dr. Carol Tomlinson leads the Institues which take place on the University of Virginia grounds in Charlottesville, VA. The Institutes are a stone's throw from Thomas Jefferson’s beloved Monticello and are a short drive to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Attendance at each institute is limited to ensure a more personalized learning experience.

FALL Symposium: Nov. 15 & 16, 2013

Fall at UVAThe Fall Symposium is a compact, 2-day conference designed for educators who are beginning the journey toward differentiation. This institute helps participants gain an understanding of the attitudes and practices that support optimal learning environments for today’s diverse learners.

Key presenters include Carol Tomlinson, Marcia Imbeau and a host of other amazing contributors.

SPRING: Best Practices Institute

Daffodils at UVA The 2014 Best Practices Institute (BPI) is a 3-day conference held in the spring. This year's Best Practices Institute will focus on "Differentiation and Assessment" and is scheduled for March 20-22 2014. Session descriptions are not yet available, but to should be similar to former break-out sessions & presenters, available to view here.

SUMMER: Institute on Academic Diversity

Summer at UVANow in its 16th year, the Summer Institute on Academic Diversity (SIAD) is a 5-day conference designed to reinforce the principles and practices of differentiation. SIAD features morning sessions with Dr. Carol Tomlinson, afternoon break-out sessions with DI experts from across the country, as well as personalized sessions tailored for individual grade level, subject area, or job specific needs.
